Paraguay’s beef export sector maintained strong international demand during the first quarter of 2026. It reached nearly 70 million kilograms exported by the end of March. Despite a decline compared to the previous year, the country continues to position itself as a key supplier in global meat markets.
The performance reflects both the importance of traditional destinations and the broader dynamics affecting international trade. Markets such as Chile, Israel and the United States remain central to Paraguay´s export strategy.
Demand of beef export
During the first quarter of the year, Paraguay exported 69.3 million kilograms of beef. This generated US$453.3 million in revenue. Chile stood out as the main destination, importing nearly 24 million kilograms. Purchases exceeded US$157.7 million.
Israel ranked second, with 10.9 million kilograms exported for a total of US$80.9 million. The United States followed with 12.1 million kilograms, representing US$65.7 million in value. These figures confirm the continued reliance on key international partners, which absorb a significant share of Paraguay´s beef exports and provide stability to the sector.
Diversification of meat exports
Beyond beef, Paraguay also recorded activity in other livestock sectors. Pork exports reached 4,073,223 kilograms, generating US$12.6 million, with Iraq, Vietnam and Philippines as the main markets. Meanwhile, the poultry sector exported 2,195,367 kilograms, representing revenues of more than US$2.9 million. Although smaller in scale, these sectors contribute to the diversification of Paraguay´s animal product exports.
In comparison with the first quarter of 2025, the sector experienced a notable decrease in performance. Beef export volumes fell by 30.6%, down from 90.6 million kilograms recorded in the same period last year. Revenue also declined by 12%, from US$509.9 million in 2025 to US$453.3 million in 2026. This reflects changing market conditions and highlights the challenges currently facing the export sector.
Domestic market initiatives
At the domestic level, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) continues to promote initiatives aimed at supporting producers and increasing access to meat products.
The recent and successful “Semana Santa Ra’arõvo” ( Holy Week To Offer Beef For The First Time) Family Agriculture Fair took place. Approximately 17,000 kilograms of beef were sold for over ₲450 million. Authorities plan to continue organising similar fairs throughout 2026. These initiatives aim to offer affordable prices while strengthening the local agricultural economy.
Beef export adapting to new market conditions
Paraguay´s beef export and industry remains a cornerstone of its export economy. Even as it navigates a period of adjustment marked by declining volumes and shifting global demand. The sustained presence in key markets highlights the beef export sector´s resilience and its capacity to remain competitive internationally.
At the same time, the growth of other animal exports and the strengthening of domestic initiatives point towards a more diversified and balanced strategy. As 2026 progresses, the sector will continue to adapt to new conditions while maintaining its role as a key driver of economic activity in Paraguay.
