Holy Week Fair Brings Beef Sale In Asunción: What To Expect At The Costanera Fair

As part of the wider programme outlined in Paraguay’s Holy Week 2026 Fairs To Offer Beef For The First Time, a major highlight will take place in the capital on Tuesday, 31 March 2026. The Costanera of Asunción will host a large-scale Holy Week fair. Beef will be sold at accessible prices, adding a new dimension to the event.

A focused effort on affordability

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) has confirmed that around 20,000 kilos of beef will be available during the event. This forms part of the “Semana Santa Ra’arõvo 2026” campaign, which aims to strengthen direct sales between producers and consumers. Unlike the broader network of fairs taking place across several cities, the Costanera event places particular emphasis on affordability.

A total of 12 different cuts will be offered at adjusted prices, designed to meet the high demand typically seen during Holy Week. To ensure fair access, purchases will be limited to 10 kilos per person. This measure is expected to benefit roughly 2,000 consumers while also preventing resale practices.

Organisation at the Holy Week fair

The fair will bring together approximately 450 producers from across various departments. Additionally, around 800 organisations are supporting the initiative at the national level.

This coordinated effort will be reflected in the infrastructure set up along the Costanera. Organisers have planned for 150 sales tables and over 130 metres of covered space. This will allow for efficient and direct commercial exchanges without intermediaries. According to officials, this logistical scale underscores the increasing significance of these fairs within Paraguay’s food distribution system.

A model for future expansion

Authorities see this event as more than a one-off experience. If successful, the inclusion of beef could be gradually introduced in similar fairs nationwide. This aligns with the broader strategy already described in the national fair programme, where expanding product variety and improving accessibility remain key priorities. The collaboration between public institutions and agricultural organisations continues to play a central role in this process.

Ultimately, the Holy Week fair represents a testing ground for future editions, combining economic opportunity for producers with practical benefits for consumers during one of Paraguay’s busiest seasonal periods.
