People from every corner of the globe are drawn to Asunción, where Paraguay’s laid-back capital has quietly become a melting pot of cultures, ideas and ambition. Each Tuesday evening from 18:00 to 21:00, digital nomads, expats and friendly locals come together at the ever-popular English networking event organised by The Asunción Times. Held in a different charming bar or restaurant across the city every week, these gatherings offer the perfect blend of Paraguayan warmth and international energy. In this People of Asunción series, we introduce the inspiring individuals who make this scene so uniquely alive. In #12, Diego Royg from Paraguay.
Meet Diego Royg

Diego Royg (25) was born in Asunción. He is working in market research and intelligence for an American company. He lived in Taiwan for 5 years and one year in Germany, but most of his life has been in Paraguay.
What is your favourite place in Asunción?
“I love my neighbourhood, Ycuá Satí. I think is a very calm neighbourhood and you can walk there. It is close to the corporate area, the big shopping centres and the nightlife areas”.
What is your favourite place outside of Asunción?
“It would be either Encarnación or San Bernardino. Because those are really nice cities, calmer, and in summer they are great, you have good parties and nature. In the case of Encarnación, you have the river. In San Bernardino, you have the lake. They are also great places to see sunsets.”
What do you love most about Paraguay?
“I love its people. Paraguayans are very friendly, welcoming, and warm. Paraguayans are always willing to help. Our people are one of the friendliest cultures I know”.
If you were to invite people to the Asuncion Times networking events, what would you say to them?
“Come, because it is a great group to meet people, exchange ideas, and be connected to the expats community here. Also, to know locals who speak English and can show you the city and the country. Definitely, you will find very high-value people here, and it is a great group to be part of”.
How did you find out about The Asunción Times networking events?
“It is actually funny. I used to work for a shipping company, and after work, I would go to the gym in the building of the company. One day, I was training and became friends with an American guy. He knew about these events and invited me to one. I joined him and met so many nice people here. They became my friends, and now I am part of the community as well.”
As a Paraguayan yourself, how is it to talk to newcomers at The Asunción Times networking events?
“It is a great thing. Both for locals and newcomers who want to settle down here. I think Paraguayans have a lot to learn from foreigners. And newcomers can also learn about the country through its people”.
What would you recommend a newcomer to do in Paraguay?
“In Asunción, you should go to the Botanical Garden. There are many parks here that are great for going for a walk. You should go downtown, to the Government Palace and the Costanera. Also, to Asuncion’s rooftop bars to see the sunsets.”
If you moved away tomorrow, what would you absolutely take with you from Paraguay?
“My friends. My people. Because, as I mentioned before, they are really friendly and willing to help”.
