Temporary Bridge Removal In San Lorenzo: Alternative Routes For Bike Path Users

Paraguay’s Ministry of Public Works (MOPC) will remove the metal pedestrian bridge located on España Street in San Lorenzo. Located along the bike path of the city south of Asunción, the aim is to advance protection works along the San Lorenzo river banks. Additionally, this will allow for the continuation of the reinforced concrete construction. As well as guaranteeing the free passage of machinery and technical personnel in the affected area.

Work is beginning at the end of October 2025 and will last approximately fifteen days. During this period, alternative access routes will be provided for users. The work is part of a bigger project to improve and transform the San Lorenzo Stream.

Alternative routes and metal bridge removal

To ensure safe access to the bike path, alternative routes will be available at three points: Sargento Silva, Coronel Romero, and General Caballero Street. All will be properly marked and will have perimeter fencing. The end result is to guide users and restrict access to the construction zone.

The removal of the metal bridge is a necessary temporary measure for the continuation of the project. Once this stage is completed, the installation of a new pedestrian bridge is planned. The new one will be more modern, functional, and safe for residents and users of the bike path.

A comprehensive urban project

The San Lorenzo stream protection project also includes the creation of high-quality public spaces. This plan includes the construction of a linear walkway with railings, solar lighting, a new plaza, and the improvement of an existing one.

Both plazas will be equipped with playgrounds and outdoor exercise equipment. The plan also incorporates environmental education initiatives. The goal is to promote care for the environment and create proper waste disposal. Furthermore, one of the main focus points is to preserve the stream and its ecosystem.

The Ministry of Public Works (MOPC) requests the cooperation and understanding of users during the construction period of the metal bridge and acess points. The Ministry also reminds everyone that the telephone line (0984) 080-458 is available for questions or complaints.
