Migramóvil: Bringing Migration Services To Newcomers Across Paraguay

Paraguay’s National Directorate of Migration (Migraciones) launched new versions of its “Migramóvil” service. The service aims to bring faster and more convenient assistance to residents who live far from official Migration offices. The initiative will visit the departments of Guairá, Caazapá, and Itapúa for the first time, expanding access to essential migration services across Paraguay.

The National Directorate of Migration created Migramóvil to decentralise services and reach communities throughout the country. The programme’s purpose is to simplify procedures for newcomers who may face difficulties travelling to Asunción. With this, the institution ensures more efficient and inclusive attention by taking migration services directly to people’s regions.

Available procedures and upcoming schedule

Among the services provided are temporary and permanent residence applications, renewals, extensions, and replacements of residence cards. Citizens may also request certificates of residency, migratory movement records, and the cancellation of residence applications. Certain procedures, such as final approvals and movement certificates, are completed later at the Central Office. All requirements and fees are detailed on the Migraciones website.

There are two operating modalities. The regular modality functions in cities with higher demand, where residence ID cards and related documents are processed and delivered on-site. Meanwhile, the reduced modality operates in areas with fewer requests, focusing on receiving residence applications and offering general guidance.

Migramóvil’s moves

Migramóvil has already visited the Guairá department, located 180 kilometres from Asunción. The mobile service is currently operating in Caazapá, located over 200 kilometres from Asunción, where residents can complete their migration procedures at the Departmental Government Office until 10 October, 2025.

On 13 and 14 October, Migramóvil will arrive in Itapúa, 360 kilometres from Asunción, to continue providing services in the region. The office will operate at Hohenau’s (Paraguay’s “Capital of Immigrants”) Road Station, and later at Cambyretá’s Town Hall on 16 and 17 October. Services will be available from 08:00 to 16:00 each day.
