Applications are now open for 200 scholarships for postgraduate studies abroad, announced the National Scholarship Programme “Carlos Antonio López” (Becal). The scholarships cover master’s, doctoral, postdoctoral, specialisation, and undergraduate mobility programs. Becal opened applications mid September 2025.
Applications are submitted fully online through the Conacyt System for Application Instruments (SPI). The guidelines and conditions, including requirements and necessary documentation, are available in the Applicant section of the Becal website.
Incomplete applications rejected
Becal advises applicants to ensure applications are complete and documentation is legible. Incomplete or illegible submissions will not be considered. Applicants should carefully review their entries, paying close attention to personal details such as full name, identity card number, and email address. Correct information is crucial as notifications will be sent to this email, Becal states.
Becal stresses that the omission, falsification, or alteration of information or documents at any stage of the evaluation, selection, or scholarship development process will result in exclusion from the award process. In cases where a scholarship has already been granted, contract termination and repayment may be required.
Scholarships opportunities
The self-managed category offers 5 doctoral scholarships in Science, Technology, and Innovation (CTI), 8 for the private sector, 7 master’s in CTI, 2 doctoral scholarships in Education and/or Educational Management, and 5 master’s scholarships for private sector professionals.
In addition, 138 specialisation scholarships are available for both public and private sector professionals. Five scholarships are for undergraduate international mobility, and five for postdoctoral studies.
For the public sector, Becal provides five self-managed master’s scholarships for the development of advanced human capital. Twenty additional places are available in the assisted modality for the renewal of language courses in Paraguay, aimed at university students.
Improving public and private sector performance
Becal aims to enhance the performance of public institutions and private companies by incorporating advanced human capital into their workforce. The programme represents a significant investment in the development of Paraguay’s human resources. Applicants are encouraged to review the application guidelines carefully before submitting their applications.
Recently, Becal also opened applications for its undergraduate international exchange programme in Kansas, United States. The deadline for applications is Monday, 29 September 2025.
