‘Click ITAIPU’ Photography Contest To Spotlight Paraguay’s Tourist Attractions

Itaipú Binacional has officially presented the ‘Click ITAIPU’ photography competition, a new initiative designed to highlight the rich architectural, natural, and cultural heritage of the Itaipú Tourist Complex. The competition invites the public to capture the essence of the region through their own creative perspective. The formal announcement was made at the Binacional’s stand during the Expo Paraguay ARP 2026, a significant national event for industry and culture. You can submit your photo until 21:00 on 26 August, 2026.

The launch ceremony was attended by prominent officials, including Jacinto Santa María, the Minister of the National Secretariat of Tourism (Senatur), and Diana Centurión, the Tourism Advisor for Itaipú. Their presence underscores the importance of the project for national tourism promotion. The proposal encourages participants to become ambassadors for Itaipú’s attractions. These sites combine modern engineering innovation with rich biodiversity across conservation areas and public spaces.

Promoting national heritage

The core objective of the contest is to incentivise the population to visit, learn about, and value the Itaipú Tourist Complex. The competition also encourages people to share their experiences through images celebrating Paraguay’s tourist, natural, and cultural heritage. Itaipú hopes this visual promotion will increase appreciation for the complex’s work beyond energy generation. The ‘Click ITAIPU’ initiative aims to create a visual archive through visitors’ eyes. The project offers fresh perspectives on the region’s iconic landmarks and lesser-known attractions.

By engaging the public directly, the competition aims to generate a wave of user-created content that showcases the beauty and significance of the sites. The initiative aims to boost domestic and international tourism through images by amateur and professional photographers. The contest invites participants to document the connection between engineering and nature at Itaipú.

A diverse range of photographic locations

Participants will have the opportunity to capture photographs across several of the complex’s most significant attractions. Each location offers a unique theme and environment for photographers. The list of eligible sites includes:

Creative and technical guidelines

The photographs submitted to the competition must originally and creatively reflect the landscapes, fauna, flora, architecture, or other representative details of these designated spaces. According to the organisers, each image should highlight the site’s tourist, natural, cultural, or heritage value. Entrants are encouraged to capture unique perspectives that tell a story. Subjects may range from the dam’s scale to the details of native plants.

This creative freedom allows for a wide range of photographic styles, from sweeping panoramic shots to intimate macro photography. The judging will likely assess originality, composition, technical quality, and how well each photograph captures the spirit of the Itaipú Tourist Complex. The competition therefore serves not only as a promotional tool but also as a platform for artistic expression, encouraging a deeper visual dialogue with the surrounding environment.

Eligibility and registration information

Participation in the ‘Click ITAIPU’ competition is open to individuals over the age of 18. This includes both Paraguayan citizens and foreign nationals who hold legal residency in the country. A fundamental condition of entry is that all participants must physically visit the attractions to capture their photographs, ensuring authenticity and a direct connection to the subject matter. This requirement reinforces the contest’s goal of stimulating tourism and first-hand exploration of the sites.

Those interested in taking part can complete their registration through the official form provided by the organisation. Itaipú Binacional has also made the complete rules, terms, and conditions of the contest available for consultation via dedicated online links. Prospective entrants are advised to review these documents carefully to ensure their submissions meet all the necessary requirements for consideration.
