The Embassy of the Argentine Republic in Paraguay welcomed approximately 240 visitors to its grounds during its Embajada Abierta (Open Embassy) event at on Avenida Perú in Asunción. This initiative provided a rare opportunity for local residents, families, students, and members of the Argentine community to explore the historic gardens of the Embassy Of Argentina, located in the heart of Paraguay’s capital.
The event allowed attendees to access a space typically reserved for diplomatic functions. It highlighted one of the city centre’s most significant green spaces. Visitors were able to admire the diverse vegetation, large, mature trees, and a waterfall within the embassy compound. They also received information about the history and architecture of the diplomatic mission.
A green oasis in the city centre
The embassy’s grounds feature approximately 6,800 square metres of gardens. These gardens are home to more than 300 floral and forest species. During the organised tours, participants learned about key aspects of the property and the long-standing historical relationship between Argentina and Paraguay. The land was originally donated to the Argentine Republic by the Paraguayan Government under Law No. 1007, dated 23 August 1928.
The purpose of the donation was for the construction of what was then the Legation of the Argentine Republic in Paraguay. The current embassy building was officially inaugurated on 22 December 1988 and houses the Chancellery, Cultural sections, and the Ambassador’s Residence.
Fostering community relations
Throughout the day, the Embassy Of Argentina hosted various groups of visitors who had registered in advance due to limited capacity. The Embajada Abierta programme aimed to share the historical, architectural, and natural heritage of the Argentine diplomatic representation with the wider community.
The event took place at the embassy headquarters on Avenida Perú, and was part of a broader institutional outreach programme designed to foster closer ties with the citizens of Asunción. The initiative was well-received, offering a unique glimpse into the diplomatic compound and its significant contribution to the city’s urban environment.
