Paraguay’s tourism sector recorded a strong economic impact during the Christmas holiday week, as festive activities and travel generated US$ 81.2 million nationwide. According to the National Secretariat of Tourism (Senatur), the impact occurred between 23 and 28 December 2025, across several regions. More than 142,000 people travelled during the extended weekend, which included Christmas Day and the 26 December public holiday. The results highlight why tourism remains a key driver of Paraguay’s economy.
Domestic travel drives spending
Domestic tourism played a significant role during the festive period. Data from the National Tourism Secretariat shows spending reached US$ 19 million. This consumption covered transport, accommodation, gastronomy, retail, and tourism services.
Popular destinations across the country benefited from the increase in internal travel. Families and groups took advantage of the long weekend to explore cultural and natural attractions. This movement supported local businesses and seasonal employment. It also strengthened regional economies outside the capital.
Mobility figures further reflect this trend. A total of 318,874 vehicles passed through national toll booths. These movements generated US$ 42.6 million in toll revenues. The figures underline the scale of travel within Paraguay during the holidays.
International visitors and key attractions
Inbound tourism also showed positive results. The National Directorate of Migration reported 50,045 international tourists entering Paraguay during the same period. Estimated income from inbound tourism reached US$ 19.5 million.
Itaipu Binacional was the most visited attraction, receiving over 12,000 visitors. The Jesuit Missions also attracted strong interest, particularly Santísima Trinidad. Yacyretá Binacional welcomed visitors despite its more specialised appeal.
A strong year-end for fourism
These holiday figures contributed to a solid year for the sector. Paraguay closed 2025 with an estimated tourism impact of US$ 1.279 billion. Meetings tourism accounted for US$ 500 million, while domestic tourism contributed US$ 195 million.
Major sporting events, including the Junior Pan American Games and the World Rally Championship, also boosted arrivals. Together, these results confirm tourism’s growing importance in Paraguay’s economic and cultural landscape.
