Asunción’s historic heart is becoming more accessible and active thanks to the Walkers’ Club (El Club de los Caminantes), an initiative by the National Secretariat of Tourism (SENATUR). The programme runs from Monday to Friday at 10:00, departing from Turista Roga on Palma Street. Open to both visitors and residents, the guided walks aim to showcase the city’s architectural heritage while encouraging healthy outdoor activity. Led by tourism professional Lili Müller, the experience blends culture, exercise, and everyday Paraguayan traditions.
A walking route through history and nature

Each walk takes participants through the historic district of the capital, combining sightseeing with light exercise. Along the way, visitors can admire emblematic buildings, public squares, and native vegetation. Moreover, the route changes daily, allowing returning participants to discover different stories and perspectives of Asunción’s past.
Before setting off, the group begins with rhythmic stretching to prepare the body for the walk. According to organisers, this small ritual helps create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere among participants. As the walk progresses, history becomes the central thread of the narration, highlighting cultural heritage and everyday life in Paraguay.
“The idea is for people to experience experiential tourism through our customs and daily habits, such as tereré and its benefits, the friendliness of our people, and the sweetness of the Guaraní language,” explains Müller. In this way, the experience goes beyond sightseeing and invites visitors to connect with local identity and traditions.
Tourism that connects people
In addition to promoting physical wellbeing, the Walkers’ Club encourages social interaction and cultural exchange. Tourists can engage directly with local guides, while residents rediscover familiar streets from a new perspective. As a result, the initiative strengthens community ties and promotes sustainable urban tourism.
Furthermore, the programme aligns with broader efforts to revitalise Asunción’s historic centre by attracting consistent foot traffic and raising awareness of its architectural and natural value. The daily thematic routes also ensure that the experience remains dynamic and educational.
Participation is open and welcoming to anyone interested in learning more about the city while staying active. Bookings can be made by calling or messaging +595 983 981 212. Organisers invite the public to join the walks and enjoy what promises to be a memorable and enriching experience in the heart of Paraguay’s capital.
