13,000 Cubic Metres Of Sand: Encarnación’s Beach Gets Summer Body Ready

San José Beach, the crown jewel of Encarnación’s summer tourism, is undergoing a significant transformation to welcome thousands of visitors for the 2025/2026 season. The Yacyretá Binational Entity has partnered with the Municipality of Encarnación to deliver 13,000 cubic metres of sand to Encarnación’s beach, enabling comprehensive replacement and reconditioning works on the beach.

The renovation, already in progress, is expected to be completed within 30 days, ensuring the beach is fully revitalised for the influx of tourists. This initiative underscores the Yacyretá Binational Entity’s commitment to fostering local development and tourism in the region.

Upgrading Encarnación’s beach

The upgrade of San José Beach is set to help Encarnación’s economy, driving growth in gastronomy, commerce, lodging, and recreational activities. The project is anticipated to create jobs and generate income for hundreds of families, cementing the beach’s role as a key economic engine for the area.

Through this effort, the Yacyretá Binational Entity reaffirms its dedication to enhancing public spaces and supporting the well-being of communities within its sphere of influence. With the revitalised San José Beach, Encarnación is poised to shine as a premier summer destination in Paraguay.

Paraguay’s ‘Capital of Summer’

Encarnación, often called Paraguay’s ‘Capital of Summer’, boasts San José Beach as its undisputed star attraction along the majestic Paraná River. Inaugurated in December 2011 as part of the city’s ambitious Costanera Avenue development, this 700-metre stretch of golden sand – extending up to 1.48 kilometres in some descriptions – pays homage to the historic San José silo and flour mill nearby, now cherished landmarks.

Nestled opposite the Argentine city of Posadas, it draws over 500,000 visitors annually during peak season, transforming a once-quiet riverfront into a bustling hub of leisure. With its calm, crystalline waters ideal for swimming, San José has elevated Encarnación from a modest border town to the nation’s premier sand destination since the early 2000s.
