National Popular Music Orchestra (ONAMP) Held Its Grand Inaugural Concert

The National Popular Music Orchestra (ONAMP) held its “Grand Inaugural Concert” on Monday night. With a cast of 44 musicians and a repertoire entirely dedicated to Paraguayan music, the orchestra begins its activity with the mission of bringing musical culture to neighborhoods, towns and cities throughout the Republic of Paraguay, becoming an artistic reference in the country.

The director general of ONAMP, Luis Álvares, said that “just as there are dreams that can never be realised, there are others that become a beautiful reality.” He said that ONAMP is one of those dreams dreamed of by great Paraguayan conductors such as José Asunción Flores and Herminio Giménez, who were only able to direct great popular music orchestras outside the country.

He thanked former senator Juan Carlos Galaverna for promoting the law that created ONAMP from Congress and President Santiago Peña for promulgating it. “I promise you that you will feel very proud of this orchestra,” said the maestro.

The concert, held in the courtyards of the Government Palace, featured the participation of prominent artists such as Luis Szarán, Juan Cancio Barreto, Francisco Russo, Ricardo Flecha, Juanchi Álvarez, Orlando Caballero, Rigoberto Arévalos, Myriam Beatriz, Mirta Noemí, the Group Generación, Ymaguaréicha, Surgente and Vocal 2, who, together with ONAMP, paid tribute to our traditional music.
