The National Popular Music Orchestra (ONAMP), directed by maestro Luis Álvarez, will hold its “Grand Inaugural Concert” tomorrow Monday at 8:00 p.m., on the Litoral of the Government Palace in Asunción. Access to the event will be free, with prior reservation, and the public will be able to enjoy a special night dedicated to Paraguayan music.
The President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, and the First Lady of the Nation, Leticia Ocampos, will participate in the ceremony; as well as the Minister of Culture, Adriana Ortiz, who will say a few words at the opening, to highlight the importance of this new milestone in the projection of Paraguayan popular music.
The concert will feature the participation of prominent artists such as Luis Szarán, Juan Cancio Barreto, Francisco Russo, Ricardo Flecha, Juanchi Álvarez, Orlando Caballero, Rigoberto Arévalos, Myriam Beatriz, Mirta Noemí, Grupo Generación, Ymaguaréicha, Surgente and Vocal 2, who , together with ONAMP, will pay tribute to traditional Paraguayan music.
The Guarania, symbol of Paraguay’s cultural identity, will be a central part of this event, as a prelude to the 19th Meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage to be held in December in Asunción.
Proposed by Paraguay as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity to UNESCO, Guarania will occupy a prominent place in this concert, reaffirming its relevance in our cultural identity.
The National Popular Music Orchestra, created by Law No. 7136/2023, aims to revalue Paraguayan culture, reaffirm national identity and project popular music to all corners of the country.
With a cast of 44 musicians and a repertoire entirely dedicated to Paraguayan music, the orchestra begins its activity with the mission of bringing musical culture to neighborhoods, towns and cities throughout the Republic of Paraguay, becoming an artistic reference in the country.
