Paraguayan Artist Alfredo Quiroz Explores The Body And Its Knots In New Exhibition

Paraguayan visual artist Alfredo Quiroz presented Cuando el cuerpo hace nudos (When The Body Makes Knots) on 7 October 2026 at Fábrica Galería/Club de Arte in Asunción. The exhibition brings together recent works exploring the body, knots and physical bonds. The exhibition will remain open until the end of October, offering a closer look at Quiroz’s latest artistic exploration.

A dialogue between different forms

The exhibition brings together painting, photography and objects within a connected visual language. Quiroz connects the works through ideas surrounding the body. Consequently, the pieces create relationships between different materials and forms. Visitors can explore how each work contributes to a broader reflection on physical tension and connection.

Art critic Ticio Escobar provides a critical perspective on the exhibition and Quiroz’s approach to the body. According to Escobar, the artist examines the body through experiences of pain and pleasure. At the same time, Alfredo Quiroz considers the body through his scientific background. This new perspective brings together physical structures, movement, energy and perception.

Where medicine meets art

Quiroz’s professional career creates a direct connection between his scientific and artistic practices. Born in Asunción in 1974, he works as a visual artist across graphic art, audiovisual production and installations. He also works as a medical specialist in haematology and bone marrow transplantation. As a result, his medical practice forms part of the context surrounding his artistic work.

The exhibition reflects this connection through its focus on physical structures and bodily relationships. Meanwhile, the combination of different media encourages visitors to consider how separate elements can interact. Paintings, photographs and objects maintain their own visual presence. Together, however, they create a larger network of meanings around the body.

A three-week exhibition in Asunción

Cuando el cuerpo hace nudos opened at Fábrica Galería/Club de Arte on Sargento Martínez 271, between Telmo Aquino and Abente Haedo in Asunción. The exhibition will remain open to the public for three weeks, until the end of October. Visitors can attend from 09:30 to 19:30 during the gallery’s new opening hours. Admission remains free throughout the exhibition period.

For visitors interested in contemporary Paraguayan art, the exhibition offers an opportunity to encounter Quiroz’s recent work. Furthermore, the combination of medicine and visual practice provides a distinct context for understanding his artistic language. The exhibition invites audiences to look closely at the connections between body, material and movement.
