The National Post Office of Paraguay (Dinacopa) has officially presented a new postal issue to commemorate the 2026 football World Cup. This special release of World Cup tribute stamps pays tribute to the Paraguayan national team’s successful qualification for the tournament, marking a significant moment for the nation’s football supporters. The stamps celebrate the team’s return to the world stage after a notable sixteen-year absence, capturing the widespread excitement and national pride surrounding this achievement.
A symbol of national unity
The collection has been carefully designed to reflect both the team’s journey and the fervent passion of its fanbase, serving as a lasting memento of this important sporting milestone.
This initiative by Dinacopa aims to honour the players, the coaching staff, and the supporters who all played a role in securing Paraguay’s place in the global competition. The launch event highlighted the cultural importance of football in the country and recognised the collective effort that led to the qualification. Consequently, the stamps are more than just postal items; they are a symbol of national unity and sporting success that will be distributed across the country and internationally.
A detailed look at the World Cup tribute stamps

The special edition is presented as a small collector’s sheet containing two distinct postage stamps and two complementary vignettes. These non-postage labels add further symbolic detail to the overall design. The total face value of the sheet is Gs. 17,000 (approximately US$2.80). This value is composed of the two individual stamps, which are priced at Gs. 12,000 and Gs. 5,000 respectively. Each element of the sheet has been thoughtfully designed to tell a part of the story of the national team’s journey and its connection with the people in Paraguay.
The format allows philatelists and football fans alike to acquire a comprehensive piece of memorabilia. The higher-value stamp focuses on the supporters, while the second stamp highlights the team itself. Moreover, the inclusion of vignettes provides an opportunity to incorporate additional national symbols and celebratory messages, creating a rich and layered tribute. This complete package ensures that the collection captures the full spirit of the occasion in a compact and visually appealing format.
Celebrating the passion of the fans
The stamp with the highest value, Gs. 12,000, is dedicated to the unwavering popular support for the national team, known affectionately as the Albirroja. Its design masterfully captures the intense emotion and fervour displayed by the fans throughout the challenging qualification process. This particular stamp serves as a direct acknowledgement of the crucial role that supporters play, often referred to as the ‘twelfth man’ on the pitch. It highlights how their energy and encouragement provided a vital boost to the players during critical matches.
By choosing to focus on the fans, Dinacopa underscores the deep connection between the Paraguayan people and their national football team. The artwork seeks to convey the electric atmosphere of the stadiums and the shared hope of a nation rallying behind its team. This stamp is a tribute to every supporter who shared in the tension of the qualifiers and the ultimate joy of securing a place in the World Cup.
Honouring the team and national heritage
In contrast, the Gs. 5,000 stamp features a composition that alludes to the team’s triumphant return to the World Cup. This design includes depictions of key members of the Paraguayan national team alongside their manager, Gustavo Alfaro. Their inclusion recognises the skill, discipline, and leadership that were instrumental in the successful campaign. Central to this stamp’s design is the iconic National Pantheon of Heroes, a significant national monument in Asunción.
The two complementary vignettes further enrich the collection with symbolic elements. One vignette showcases the artwork ‘Raza Paraguaya’, which is represented by a lion. This image was chosen as an emblem of the strength, courage, and fighting spirit of the Albirroja. The second vignette carries the celebratory declaration, “¡Volvimos! Copa Mundial de Fútbol 2026,” which translates to “We are back! 2026 Football World Cup.”
The artist behind the design
The World Cup tribute stamps were designed by the talented Paraguayan artist Lili Cantero. To create the artwork, Cantero utilised digital illustration techniques, allowing for a modern and dynamic visual narrative. Her proposal was selected for its ability to seamlessly integrate powerful symbols of Paraguayan national identity with the raw passion of the fans and the determined spirit of the national team. The final design is a testament to her creative vision and technical skill.
Through her work, Cantero has successfully translated a significant national moment into a piece of collectible art. The digital medium enabled her to craft detailed compositions that are both intricate and impactful. Her illustrations bring together diverse elements – from historical landmarks to symbolic animals and celebratory text – into a cohesive and inspiring tribute.
