Inside Paraguay’s Ceramists Fair: From Earth To Art In The Heart Of Areguá

Tables covered with clay figures, glazed vessels, and sculptural works filled La Casona in Areguá during Paraguay’s Ceramists Fair 2026. Throughout the weekend, artisans from different parts of the country exhibited pieces that reflected a range of techniques, materials, and artistic approaches.

The exhibition transformed the historic venue into a place for ceramic forms. Each stand presented a different interpretation of clay. Some pieces featured polished surfaces and natural tones, while others displayed bright colours, intricate textures, and experimental designs. The Asunción Times attended the fair.

A diversity of styles in one place

Walking through the fair revealed the breadth of ceramic production in Paraguay. Traditional vessels and contemporary artistic pieces demonstrated how the same material can be shaped into different forms. Black clay works shared space with pieces finished using glazes and pigments, offering visual contrast across the exhibition. Animal figures, decorative objects, tableware, and sculptures appeared throughout the venue, highlighting the variety of interests and techniques represented by participating artisans.

The arrangement of the stands encouraged visitors to move slowly through the exhibition, taking in all the details of the pieces that ranged from delicate surface patterns to bold geometric forms. Each table offered a distinct artistic identity and contributed to the larger display of Paraguayan ceramic production.

The presence of craftsmanship

One of the most striking aspects of the fair was the visible attention to detail throughout the works on display. Creations with smooth or colorful finishes, carefully modelled figures, and decorative elements showed the time and precision artisans take in ceramic production. The exhibition also revealed the versatility of clay as an artistic medium. Some artisans favoured functional objects designed for everyday use, like mugs or plates, while others approached ceramics as a form of artistic expression. Together, these pieces demonstrated how the material continues to support tradition and experimentation.

As visitors moved through La Casona, the fair presented the results of processes that involve shaping, drying, firing, and finishing each piece by hand.

A weekend dedicated to ceramics

Set against the backdrop of Areguá, a city closely associated with ceramic production, the fair brought together a broad selection of works in a single space. The event offered an opportunity to observe the diversity of contemporary Paraguayan ceramics and the many forms that emerge from a shared material. By the end of the weekend, Paraguay’s Ceramists Fair had transformed La Casona into a showcase of creativity and technique. Through dozens of stands and hundreds of pieces, the exhibition showcased the enduring presence of ceramics within Paraguay’s culture.
