Scientists Unite: Asunción To Host Ibero-American Researchers’ Night 2025

Paraguay is set to become the focal point for the sixth “Ibero-American Researchers’ Night 2025”, an event for scientific collaboration. The event will be held on September 26 and 27 2025 in Asunción, and will represent the most ambitious scientific outreach event in Ibero-America.

Orchestrated by the Organisation of Ibero-American States (OEI), this year’s gathering will delve deeply into the subject of climate change. The aim is to identify solutions but also igniting a passion for scientific careers across the region.

Eighteen nations, 300 institutions

This well-established scientific collaboration has successfully forged an impressive network. Spanning eighteen nations, this collaboration is made with over 300 institutions, and engage a thousand researchers. It operates like a finely tuned machine, consistently demonstrating that scientific endeavour knows no boundaries.

The highlight of this event will be the showcase of work dedicated to mitigate the effects of climate change, a global challenge that directly impacts us all. Crucial topics such as sustainability, the energy transition, and the social and environmental transformation of Ibero-America will also be addressed. It represents a multifaceted call to action.

Researchers’ Night 2025 calling out

The event will unfold simultaneously across a remarkable list of countries such as Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain. Also participating are Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Portugal, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay, and, naturally, Paraguay.

As the host nation, Paraguay, supported by the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT), will be the venue for the opening ceremony. The OEI is pleased to announce a formal call for research contributions. Researchers with relevant work and scientific advancements are encouraged to submit their proposals for participation in the upcoming event.

The deadline for all submissions is July 15 2025 This represents a significant opportunity for engagement within the scientific community.

The OEI: firm commitment to a sustainable future

This Researchers’ Night 2025 is not an isolated occasion. It is a vital component within the OEI’s continuous dedication to a greener and more environmentally aware Ibero-America. In recent years, the organisation has deployed an array of high-impact projects. The OEI is focusing on enhancing sustainability through education, science, and culture.

A clear illustration of this is Energytran, an initiative coordinated by the OEI since 2024, with financial backing from the European Commission. Its objective is both ambitious and essential: “to contribute to a just, clean, and sustainable energy transition in Latin America and Europe, underpinned by a model of horizontal cooperation and a social approach.”

From this project, crucial findings are already emerging for the formulation of public policies on energy transition. This includes encompassing gender perspectives and the societal impact of strategic resources such as hydrogen and lithium. On June 23, Madrid hosted the forum “Women experts in climate change and energy transition,” an event poised to illuminate the necessity of a gendered perspective within this analysis.

The Sixth Ibero-American Researchers Night is held in September in Paraguay for scientific collaboration.

Scientific collaboration in Ibero-America

Furthermore, the OEI remains proactive in scientific collaboration. It will play a pivotal role as co-organiser at the forthcoming COP30, scheduled for November in Belém, Brazil. There, it will unveil “Iberoamérica Viva,” a space designed for international dialogue, where culture, science, and education will stand as fundamental pillars for constructing sustainable, equitable, and inclusive solutions to the climate crisis. This emphatically reaffirms the region’s position as an active and constructive participant in this global challenge.

Paraguay’s role as the host nation for this pivotal event underscores its growing commitment to fostering scientific advancement, and its crucial position in leading regional efforts towards a sustainable and climate-resilient future for Ibero-America.
