Soul Legend Macy Gray Marks First Performance In Paraguay

The soul and R&B icon Macy Gray is coming to Paraguay for the first time in her career. The American artist will perform at the Teatro del Banco Central del Paraguay in Asunción on 10 March 2026, marking a significant moment for the country’s music scene and a long-awaited visit from one of contemporary music’s most distinctive voices.

The concert forms part of Gray’s global tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of her landmark debut album, “On How Life Is.” Released in 1999, the album defined the late 1990s, earning global acclaim and selling over 25 million copies.

Macy Gray’s defining album: On how life is

The album introduced the world to Gray’s unmistakable raspy voice and soul-infused sensibility. The record spawned several enduring hits that would define her career. Its lead single, “I Try,” became her signature song and won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance in 2000. Standout tracks like “Why Didn’t You Call Me” and “Still” highlight the emotional depth and musical sophistication of her breakthrough.

The album propelled Gray to international stardom, marking her as one of her generation’s most distinctive artists. Five Grammy nominations and two BRIT Awards underscore her lasting influence in contemporary music.

From Ohio to global recognition

Born in Canton, Ohio, Gray relocated to Los Angeles to study screenwriting at USC. A fortuitous moment proved transformative: when a scheduled vocalist did not appear for demo recordings, Gray stepped in to sing and discovered her professional calling. What began as an accident became the foundation of a legendary career spanning more than two decades.

Her versatility has seen her pursue acting alongside her music career. She has appeared in Tyler Perry’s “For Colored Girls,” the Netflix series “Fuller House,” and notably starred alongside Denzel Washington in the film “Training Day.” These ventures demonstrate her range as a performer and her willingness to explore different artistic mediums.

Gray is also known as a songwriter, music producer, and activist. She has collaborated with notable artists including Bobby Brown, Ariana Grande, and Galactic. Her 2024 single “I AM”, with Big Freedia, celebrates authenticity, pride, and inclusivity.
