Motorists in Luque should brace for some traffic changes this weekend as storm drain installation work takes place on General Elizardo Aquino Avenue, near Ytororó Street. The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) has announced that the disruptions are part of a larger project to double Route D025, also known as the Las Residentas Road Corridor. The Luque roadworks, close to Paraguay’s capital Asunción, aim to boost connectivity, and road safety in the area.
Luque roadworks schedule
On Saturday, 4 October 2025, those driving towards Luque will need to stick to a designated lane within the construction zone. This will keep access open from the Silvio Pettirossi Highway to Elizardo Aquino Avenue.
On Sunday, 5 October, drivers heading towards Asunción will be diverted to a temporary lane on the same stretch near Ytororó. Both days, traffic will still flow along Elizardo Aquino Avenue, with clearly marked channels guiding drivers. The MOPC is urging everyone to slow down, follow the signs, and drive carefully through the area to avoid any mishaps.
Improving stormwater drainage
The installation of storm drains in and around Asunción is vital for tackling the city’s persistent flooding issues, which often disrupt daily life and damage infrastructure during heavy rains. Effective stormwater management supports Asunción’s growth as a more sustainable and livable city. Recently there were also construction works on Mariscal López Avenue in Asunción and in San Lorenzo.
The work in Luque involves fitting large 1.5 x 1.5 metre double cellular culverts, which are designed to improve stormwater drainage and cut the risk of flooding. It is all part of a bigger plan to widen the road, strengthen the drainage system, and make urban travel smoother. The project is funded by the Itaipu Technology Park Foundation in Paraguay and carried out by Benito Roggio e Hijos SA, with the MOPC keeping a close eye on progress.
So, if you are driving through Luque this weekend, take it easy and keep an eye out for those signs. Safe travels!
