What is the Christmas Cantata about?

“The piece depicts the story of the birth of Jesus, highlighting the main moments traditionally commemorated during Christmas,” Giménez Riveros explains. “The show is structured in six movements: Overture, The Promise, A Gift Like No Other, Intermezzo, Emmanuel, and We Sing Christmas.”

“This work is drawing inspiration from the Baroque cantata. The Christmas Cantata features sections for soloists, instrumental interludes, and incorporates national musical elements such as the guarania, along with a children’s choir and a mixed choir. The orchestration includes organ, piano, bowed strings (violins, viola, cello, and double bass), glockenspiel and guitar.”

The Christmas Cantata will be performed by the Choir of the Comunidad Nuevo Pacto Church. This is an ensemble with which the composer maintains an active musical collaboration. The choir is composed of members of the congregation. The group is directed by renowned opera singers Gilda Osorio and David Neufeld, the directors of Asunción Lírica.
