The First Annual Meeting of the Paraguayan Society of Artificial Intelligence (SoPaIA), an event that marks a milestone in the promotion and development of this technology in Paraguay, was held at CAF’s House of Integration in Asunción yesterday.
The event brought together experts, academics, entrepreneurs and representatives of international organisations to analyse the implications of artificial intelligence (AI) in the region and its impact on the local context. Among the topics discussed were the use of AI in areas such as education, health, agriculture and public policies, with a particular emphasis on ensuring an ethical and sustainable development of this technology.
Francisco Da Rosa, president of The Paraguayan Society of Artificial Intelligence, gave a welcome speech in which he highlighted that artificial intelligence (AI) is no longer the exclusive domain of the major technological powers and has become a key tool for transforming the way we learn, work, do business and communicate.
Hernán Benítez, senior executive at CAF, highlighted the entity’s mission to promote initiatives that foster digital transformation in Latin America and the Caribbean. “This meeting reflects our conviction that artificial intelligence can be a powerful engine for progress, provided it is developed in an inclusive and ethical manner,” he said.
The Minister of Information and Communication Technologies, Gustavo Villate, stressed the relevance of AI as a strategic element for the sustainable development of Paraguay. “It is essential that we adopt this technology responsibly, prioritising solutions that generate a positive impact on citizens,” he said.
