Paraguay is “ready to embrace the digital era, driven by clean energy and the unlimited potential of our people to foster a knowledge-based economy”, said President Santiago Peña, in a speech at the 2024 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
Peña talked of his ambition to transform Paraguay into a Green Technology Hub, equipping it with state-of-the-art research facilities and innovative technological parks, such as the Technological Institute of Itaipu.
“We are laying the groundwork for our next two ambitious ventures: the Green Technology District and the Green Data Park,” he said.
The Green Technology District will host a partnership with Taiwan TECH and several innovation facilities being developed with significant partners such as Israel and the United States. “It will be a unique place in the world of technology,” Peña promised.
In a pitch squarely aimed at increasing foreign direct investment into Paraguay, he encouraged the audience of potential investors to move quickly.
“This train, my friends, is underway; don’t miss it! Once it reaches its maximum speed, it will be too late. I wouldn’t be here today if I weren’t convinced you would deeply regret missing out on that great hidden gem that is my unique Paraguay.”
President Peña is accompanied at the event by the First Lady, Leticia Oca; President Minister of Information and Communication Technologies, Gustavo Villate; the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Javier Giménez; and the National Chancellor, Rubén Ramírez.
