Parent Organisations Will Control Quality Of School Supplies In Paraguay

In order to offer students from public and subsidised private educational institutions of all educational levels school kits with top-quality materials, which for this 2025 school year presents important innovations. For the first time, parent organisations will certify and validate the entire process of school supplies in Paraguay.

The Paraguayan Ministry of Education and Science (MEC) continues with the process of receiving, reviewing and controlling the products received at the warehouses of the Unión Guarany company, in San Lorenzo.

In an operation that is becoming increasingly rigorous in terms of requirements that guarantee the delivery of top-level supplies for students throughout the country, this year, in addition to the participation of student unions, there will be for the first time the participation of parent organizations.

They will be the actors most directly involved in the educational field, who will certify and validate this entire process.

The Vice Minister of Basic Education, David Velázquez Seiferheld, stressed that “we have to start from the basis that education must accompany technological changes with better quality products and also social changes, in the sense of guaranteeing that the entire population receives these school kits not only as a support to the educational process, but as a support to family economies, because their free delivery by the State means an important relief for the economy of families.”

“We try to make this process as open and transparent as possible for all citizens. As every year, we will have the visit of student organisations and this time of parents, so that they can witness how this process is carried out, from the reception of the products to their packaging and preparation for distribution. We want the majority of citizens to know what the process is and to be able to evaluate the quality of what will reach the hands of our children during the school year,” he pointed out.

One of the main novelties of school supplies in Paraguay this year concerns classroom kits, which will consist of a total of 18 varieties of supplies that will reach 77,395 sections of preschool, 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles of Basic Education and Secondary Education; in addition to the incorporation of 54 items of learning notebooks and texts that are added to the 28 individual kits that will reach levels ranging from Initial Education to Permanent Education for young people and adults.

In all this, it is estimated that the benefit will reach an approximate population of 1,443,065 students, which according to a projection related to the enrollment period, may suffer a decrease variation that would range between 70,000 and 80,000 students, according to the statistics handled by the educational portfolio.

In this process, 120 officials from different MEC departments participate in the reception and quality review of products; as well as between 800 and 1,000 young people who are hired by the company Unión Guaraní, which also means a source of employment for many people every year.

Within the framework of resource optimisation, work is being done on the remnants of materials left over from the previous school year, which on average ranges between 500,000 surplus items of school supplies in Paraguay, which are reviewed for quality, quantity and expiration date, on the recommendation of the Comptroller General of Paraguay, which allows them to be reused and a forecast of lower purchase of materials, which means savings for the Paraguayan State.
