The Board of Governors has “guaranteed” all the necessary logistics to provide a quality service and benefit 1,000,000 children through the “Zero Hunger” program, starting on February 24, the date on which the school year begins. Paraguayan President Santiago Peña has asked to redouble efforts to guarantee transparency in the process.
This was one of the points addressed by the President, during the meeting he held this Tuesday in Mburuvicha Róga, with the Council of Governors. Peña also instructed that the actions of the governorships be in “sync” with the projects that the Executive Branch has been prioritising and promoting.
“We want the benefits to reach every department,” said the president of the Board of Governors, César Sosa, at a press conference, while mentioning the importance of the strategic projects that the executive has been undertaking in favor of the most vulnerable communities.
The Zero Hunger program will employ more than 40,000 people
Sosa referred to the Zero Hunger program, emphasising that starting February 24, school meals will reach more than 1,000,000 students, positively impacting some 450,000 families.
“It will provide direct employment to more than 40,000 people throughout Paraguay. We are pleased with this program that will address the concerns of many mothers,” said the governor of Guairá.
He assured that the governorates already have the necessary logistics to guarantee that school meals reach all the benefited institutions. “We are 100 percent ready to start on February 24 when classes begin,” he stressed.
Governors thanked for their trust
In turn, the governor of the department of Paraguarí, Norma Zárate, valued the trust placed by the president to carry out “Zero Hunger” and committed the greatest efforts to ensure the proper execution of the program.
“We want to continue working with the same intensity as we have been doing; this year we will see more results from the management that the Government has been carrying out,” added Zárate.
The departmental head assured that Zero Hunger will mark a before and after in the lives of thousands of students and their families. “We are proud to be part of this Government and we are committed to working with transparency and above all, with a lot of honesty,” she stressed.
At another point during the conference, Governor Sosa also highlighted the delivery of agricultural machinery to support the productive sector, as well as patrol cars to reinforce the police presence on the streets of the country.
“We are planning the delivery of ambulances and we are doing that through the Council of Governors, which are the executive arms of this Government. We will continue working towards the development and progress of our beloved Paraguay,” he concluded.
The “Zero Hunger” program was first implemented in August 2024, initially covering 90 districts of Paraguay, including many areas populated by indigenous peoples.
