The Parque Guasú Metropolitano, popularly known as “Nu Guasu Park” and one of the main green lungs of the greater Asunción area, celebrates it’s birthday today (21st September), marking 12 years since it’s creation.
The property, administered by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) and owned by the Ministry of Defence, was described by a government spokesperson as “a symbol of the preservation of green areas in the metropolitan area”.
Janina Rodriguez, the Director of the ecological reserve, stressed the importance of the park for the community and the continuous effort to keep it in optimal condition.
“From the ecological reserve Parque Guasú Metropolitano, being one of the most important lungs that the great Asunción has, with its approximately 125 hectares, today we turn one more year. We want to thank the citizenry for taking care of this space that belongs to all of us,” Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez added that hard work is under way to improve both the safety and infrastructure of the park, according to the MOPC report.
“We are providing security thanks to the comrades of the Ministry of the Interior, we invite families to come and be part of the activities,” Rodriguez concluded, encouraging citizens to enjoy and take care of this valuable natural space.
Located in the vicinity of Silvio Pettirossi International Airport and the city of Luque, the park is one of the largest ecological reserves in the region. It has an important biodiversity, with a rich variety of flora and fauna. Over the years, it has become a key place for ecological conservation in the area.
It’s a popular place to visit for locals and tourists alike, and is widely considered to be one of the best things to do in Asunción.
