Happening today: Paraguay opens it’s Museum of Economics in Asunción

In the main building of the former Ministry of Finance – currently the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) – will open, this Thursday, the first Museum of Economics in Paraguay, located in the Alegre Palace, on Chile and Palma streets in the Asunción microcenter.

A spokesperson for the MEF said that this innovative initiative was designed to educate the population about economic aspects in an accessible and understandable way.

The Museum, with a historical and didactic approach, seeks to become a benchmark of economic knowledge with contemporary museography and interactive dynamics.

It also houses a historical heritage of Paraguay’s economic past, also exhibiting furniture and historical equipment from the Ministry of Economy.

They say that the fundamental purpose of this museum is to involve citizens in economic issues, by building confidence in the MEF’s work and promoting greater acceptance of its policies and regulations, through a better understanding of its objectives.

The museum will seek to convey a positive and hopeful message, using clear, direct and rational language, without technicalities or value judgments, to motivate reflection and analysis among visitors.

Opening exhibition: “Understanding and valuing Paraguay from its Economy”

The inaugural exhibition, “Understanding and valuing Paraguay from its Economy”, will be the first step in a series of educational programs, temporary exhibitions and cultural activities that will be carried out with the aim of spreading economic knowledge and highlighting the work of the MEF.

The museum’s initial collection will include original documents and objects from various dependencies and warehouses of the Ministry of Economy. In addition, loans from other state institutions, temporary deposits from other museums, historical reproductions, donations and, in specific cases, specific acquisitions will be incorporated.

The new museum will cover an important need in the community, since to date there is no space that comprehensively and orderly explains the economic history of Paraguay.

Despite its economic focus, the museum will also serve to fill this historic gap and will position itself as a showcase for government transparency and the good performance of the authorities, they explain.

The museum script, which defines the narrative of the museum and the layout of its collection, will follow a logical and historical order to facilitate understanding. The museum tour will begin with a welcome and a brief introduction to its purpose, followed by a presentation of the basics of economics.

The museum will be divided into four main sections that are the history of the Paraguayan economy, the current economy of the country, the future perspectives of the national economy and a section dedicated to the history and organization of the MEF, its dependencies and main regulations, both historical and current.

Historical documents and objects will be displayed in showcases and other supports in an orderly manner, complementing the themes presented. In addition, digital and interactive tools will be used to ensure that visitors retain information effectively.
