Foster Families: 9 girls and boys obtained permanent adoption

Some nine boys and girls in a priority adoption situation obtained definitive adoption in five families, within the framework of the Alternative Care and Adoption Program promoted by the Government through the Ministry of Children and Adolescents.

The Minister of Children and Adolescents, Walter Gutiérrez, participated in the delivery of the final adoption sentences of 9 boys and girls in a priority adoption situation at the Luque Court.

At the event, the minister congratulated the five new “Guardian Families” who, with this selfless gesture, claim the right of these 9 children to live in a family.

“Our goal is to give them the opportunity to grow up in a warm and safe environment, where love and protection are the basis of their development. Because we firmly believe that every child and adolescent deserves to have a home and grow up with a family that cares for them,” said the minister at the launch of the “National Program for Alternative Care and Adoption,” called “Foster Families” which aims to restore the fundamental right to live in a family.

In an interview with the Government Spokesperson, broadcast yesterday, Monday, Minister Gutiérrez reiterated the importance of giving the child an alternative form of care with a foster family, who are the ones who give love and protection to the children, as well as the efforts to achieve a definitive adoption, taking into account that these processes take a long time due to lack of resources.

In this regard, he stressed that bureaucracy has now been reduced and resources have been allocated to ensure that procedures advance within reasonable timeframes.

She said that there are currently approximately 1,000 children who are separated from their families in foster care institutions and that the Government’s decision is for these children to grow and develop in a family.

The Government of Paraguay is focusing on facilitating better and quicker outcomes for children who require either adoption or foster care solutions, recently announcing a speeding up of the process to adopt a child in Paraguay, and also making it easier for prospective adoption or foster families to find out how to adopt or foster a child in Paraguay.
