Discover Paraguay’s Hidden Heritage On New “Route Of The Castles” Tour

A new tourist route called the Route of the Castles (La Ruta de los Castillos) will open on 16 November 2025 in Paraguay. The route invites travellers to explore the castles and cultural heritage of Paraguay’s Cordillera and Guairá departments. The proposal promotes sustainable and community-based tourism, supported by the National Secretariat of Tourism (Senatur) in partnership with the private companies MAGNO S.A. and Agencia SINAPSIS S.A.

The tour will include visits to the Knight Templar castles of Tobatí and Echauri, located in the district of Independencia, Guairá. Tickets cost Gs. 250,000 (approximately US$35) and include transport, a guide, refreshments, and special activities along the route. The organisers emphasised that the initiative aims to strengthen domestic tourism by highlighting Paraguay’s natural beauty, traditions, and identity.

A journey that connects heritage and community

According to Senatur’s general director of tourism products, Andrés Ortiz, the agency’s goal is to promote responsible, sustainable, and accessible tourism. Ortiz underlined that projects such as this protect Paraguay’s resources while offering meaningful experiences for visitors.

The organisers highlighted La Ruta de los Castillos as a powerful tool for social and economic development. They described it as a unique experience that unites rural life, local customs, and historical heritage.

Cultural tourism with The Route of the Castles

The tour offers an opportunity to rediscover Paraguay through its architecture, gastronomy, and community values. Visitors will be able to enjoy the authenticity of rural populations while learning about the history of the castles. The organisers hope to turn tourism into a driver of sustainable development that improves the quality of life in local communities.
