Each week, Tommy-Maurice is going to a different restaurant in Asunción. This week, it will be in Ciudad del Este. We will look at an establishment located in Pablo Rojas, the Royal Container.
Before this trip in early October, I had never been to the Departamento de Alto Paraná. Ciudad del Este was new for me. With approximately 80 different nationalities represented in the city, it allows citizens to display and help others discover local cuisine from around the world. I was present in the city for sporting activities, being part of a walking group. It gives us the possibility to discover new neighbourhoods and new restaurants. That is how I discovered the Royal Container, being the ending point of our walk on that day.
Royal Container is located in Barrio Pablo Rojas of Ciudad del Este. The restaurant offers fast foods such as hamburgers, pizzas, platters to share, fries, drinks, and beers. We mainly took pizzas and hamburgers with fries and beers. I took a hamburger, which I can qualify as one of the cheesiest, if not the cheesiest, in Ciudad del Este. It is more of a cheese sauce than slices of cheese. It contained lettuce, bacon, the meat, and the cheese. I also took beers to go along with it. It is not the best hamburger I have ever eaten in Paraguay, but it is also far from the worst. If you like this kind of food and live around or plan to travel to the region, you should try it.
As for the price, I paid around 30K Guaraníes for the hamburger. As for beers, the cost will depend on how many you drink and from which brands, but it is relatively cheap compared to other establishments that offer the same kind of food and beverages in Ciudad del Este. Overall, it costs between 40 and 60K Guaraníes per person. The experience was good. It is a smaller setting surrounded by housing in a friendlier, relaxed atmosphere. Depending on the weather and the number of clients, you can also access the second floor and eat there. On the side of the first floor, there is also a giant television on which you can watch one of the football matches of the Paraguayan league. If none of the teams in the country is playing, which is rare, they will play matches of the Argentinian and Brazilian leagues.
The restaurant is located at the corner of Abdon Palacios and Mayor Alfredo Placita, in Barrio Pablo Rojas of Ciudad del Este, on the northern side of the city and the main boulevard. There is no official parking, but there are enough spaces for vehicles if you are driving. You can reach this quiet area from Ruta PY 02, the most crucial street in the whole region. From the route, you can go north on Avenida Teniente Rojas Silva and turn left, or take Coronel Alfredo Ramos and turn right. As for hours, the establishment is open every day except Sunday night.
