Asunción’s port will transform into a vibrant cultural hub on Sunday, 11 January, as Embarcate (Get on board), alongside the El Barullo Festival, launches its first edition of 2026 after its editions in 2025. Organised by independent producers with support from Paraguay’s National Secretariat of Culture, the free event invites residents and visitors to enjoy live music, creative fairs, and exhibitions by the Paraguay River.
Activities begin in the afternoon and continue until late evening at the Asunción Port Cultural Centre. The initiative aims to revitalise the waterfront while promoting open access to culture.
Moreover, the event forms part of a wider programme of weekly activities designed to reconnect citizens with public spaces. With summer in full swing, organisers expect a strong turnout seeking leisure, art, and community gathering in an open-air setting.
Art, design, and local entrepreneurship at Embarcate
From 15:00, the art, design, and crafts fair opens its doors, offering a diverse selection of locally produced goods. Visitors can browse handmade items, creative designs, and gastronomic options while enjoying panoramic views of the Paraguay River. The relaxed atmosphere allows attendees to explore at their own pace, especially as the sunset adds warmth to the riverside landscape.
In addition, the fair highlights the work of emerging entrepreneurs and independent creators. This focus not only strengthens the local creative economy but also encourages sustainable cultural development. As a result, the port becomes a meeting point where commerce, creativity, and leisure intersect naturally.

A multidisciplinary cultural experience

Live performances begin at 16:00 with six national bands taking the stage: Ovejas Negras, Piter Punk, Aliados, Buscando el Sur, Válvula, and a Country Roads covers show. The diverse line-up blends different musical styles, creating an inclusive atmosphere that appeals to varied audiences. Concerts will continue until 23:00, maintaining energy throughout the evening.
Meanwhile, visitors can also explore the exhibition Del río las coronas, curated by Espacio Cultural Itaú, open from 14:00 to 20:00. This additional artistic experience complements the festival programme and encourages engagement with multiple cultural expressions in one venue. Consequently, El Barullo positions itself as a comprehensive cultural encounter rather than a single-format event.
Revitalising public spaces
Embarcate – Cultural Afternoons at the Port seeks to activate the Port of Asunción as a civic meeting point through art, music, and local talent. The programme contributes to the revitalisation of the historic city centre. Ultimately, the festival reflects a growing commitment to accessible cultural programming in Paraguay’s capital. By combining entertainment, creativity, and community participation, Embarcate continues to strengthen the city’s cultural identity and public life.
