Paraguayan students seeking international study opportunities can now apply for scholarships funded by the Japanese government until 29 May 2026. The programme offers fully funded opportunities for undergraduate, postgraduate, technical, and technological studies in Japan. The initiative is supported by the Ministry of Education and Sciences, the National Scholarship Council, and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Authorities highlighted that the scholarships cover major expenses, including tuition fees, accommodation, and international flights.
Undergraduate and Postgraduate studies
The programme includes scholarships for Paraguayan university graduates under 35 years old as of 1 April 2027. Selected candidates may pursue research programmes, master’s degrees, or doctoral studies at Japanese universities. Meanwhile, students completing secondary education may apply for undergraduate courses, specialised technical training, or technological careers. Applicants for these programmes must be under 25 years old by 1 April 2027.
Japanese authorities will determine the educational institution during the first year of the programme. Students may study at universities, technological institutes, or specialised training centres across Japan. Among the available fields are Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Maritime Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Information and Network Engineering. These disciplines remain important areas for technological development worldwide. The scholarship programme lasts four years and includes twelve months of preparatory education before regular academic studies begin.
Study in Japan: English skills remain essential
Applicants must demonstrate advanced English proficiency and at least a basic understanding of Japanese. In addition, candidates need a minimum academic average of 3.5 under the Paraguayan grading system to qualify for consideration. The selection process includes written examinations in mathematics, physics, chemistry, English, and Japanese. Candidates will also attend individual interviews organised by the Japanese authorities.
The Embassy of Japan in Paraguay will conduct the preliminary selection stage locally. Afterwards, the Japanese Ministry of Education will complete the final evaluation based on examination results and submitted documents. Officials explained that the Japanese government will finance accommodation, living expenses, tuition, enrolment fees, and return flights. However, scholarship recipients must personally cover airport taxes, travel insurance, and domestic transport costs within Japan.
More information about the application process is available through the Embassy of Japan in Paraguay.
