People Of Asunción #15, Paula Ferszt From Argentina: “I Love The Kindness Of Paraguayans”

People from every corner of the globe are drawn to Asunción, where Paraguay’s laid-back capital has quietly become a melting pot of cultures, ideas, and ambition. Each Tuesday evening from 18:00 to 21:00, digital nomads, expats, and friendly locals come together at the ever-popular English networking event organised by The Asunción Times. Held in a different charming bar or restaurant across the city every week, these gatherings offer the perfect blend of Paraguayan warmth and international energy. In this “People of Asunción” series, we introduce the inspiring individuals who make this scene so uniquely alive. In #11: Paula Ferszt from Argentina.

Meet Paula Ferszt

Paula Ferszt (32) is an online teacher from Esquel who now lives in Paraguay.

How long have you been in Paraguay?

“I have been here for 3 years. I came to Paraguay to take care of my family and buy a house.”

What are you doing in Paraguay?

“I work remotely as an independent language teacher for adults, teaching Spanish and Castellano through high complexity texts, such as anthropological, socio-cultural, financial texts. And I also teach the structure (not the language) for taking international English exams, such as IELTS, TKT, and TOEFL.”

What is your favourite place in Asunción, and why?

Paula Ferszt.

“My favourite place around Asunción is the area of Puerto Remanso. A small town like neighbourhood which main income relies on fishing, small fishing spots with restaurants that can cook what you fish or you can just order from a menu.”

“The perfect fusion of sand, river, sun, boat floating on the shore and high trees and flowers around you makes it feel like you are eating in the middle of an island.”

What is your favourite place outside Asunción and why?

“Outside Asunción I would say Piribebuy. A lot of camping sites, crossbow fields, archery and back horse riding.”

What do you love most about Paraguay?

“The kindness of its people and the community sense of Paraguayans. People in the streets are having beers with neighbours and they are all helping each other out.”

What do you miss from home?

“I miss the open mind thinking, Paraguayans are still very traditional.”

If you moved away tomorrow, what would you absolutely take with you from Paraguay?

“I would take with me leather items. Paraguay leather manufacturing is impressive. Like a thermos or belts, shoes, stuff like that.”
