The Government of Paraguay has announced that next year, 2025, will have a Paraguyan National Games, which will extend to all departments of the country, with the aim of increasing participation from both athletes and audiences and improving the performance of Paraguayan athletes.
The President of Paraguay, Santiago Peña, received representatives from the Paraguayan Olympic Committee (COP) and the National Sports Secretariat (SND), yesterday in Mburuvicha Róga.
During the meeting, a national strategy was presented for Paraguay’s participation in the upcoming Olympic Games, which will take place in the city of Los Angeles, United States, in 2028.
The President also received a report on the national competition that the Government plans to promote in all departments of the country, with the aim of increasing the sports reserve and improving the performance of Paraguayan athletes, with a view to the Olympic Plan.
These National Games will be held in November 2025, according to what was announced by the authorities of the Executive and the COP, during a press conference held this morning, at the end of the audience with the president.
Paraguayan National Games Will Have A Positive Impact
COP head Camilo Pérez mentioned that the priority is to make the Olympic Plan presented today a reality and, above all, achieve its impact at a national level.
Regarding the national games, he said that they will have a very positive impact on the different departments, aiming at the decentralisation of Paraguayan sport.
“We are also going to work on identifying talent in all departments of the country to be able to give more children the opportunity to have the Olympic dream, and work very hard for the ASU2025 Games and continue strengthening this great sports policy that the Government has,” he said.
For the COP president, the support of departmental and municipal authorities will be essential in order to guarantee the success of national sports competitions.
Regarding the Olympic Plan, he said that it will be implemented over the next 10 to 12 years.
“We have identified around 28 athletes to whom we are going to give much more support than we had previously given, with the aim of seeking an Olympic medal or diploma in Los Angeles,” he said.
Finally, he emphasised that the idea is not only to bring more athletes to Los Angeles but also to give them a greater role.
