Asunción To Launch New App: Welcome To Digital Tax Payment

Paraguay’s capital Asunción is working on a new institutional mobile application. The platform will allow residents to pay municipal taxes and fees digitally, simplifying procedures and reducing the need for in-person visits. The digital tax payment app is being developed in partnership between the Municipality of Asunción and the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (MITIC).

According to officials, the initiative forms part of a broader digital transformation agenda aimed at modernising public services. As a result, taxpayers will gain quicker and more convenient access to municipal obligations from their homes or workplaces.

Secure and regulated payments

Security remains a central pillar of the project. The payment system will operate under standards regulated by the Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP). These regulations ensure the protection of personal data and financial transactions.

Moreover, the application will be entirely free to download and use. Citizens will clearly see the exact amount of their tax, along with a minimal, regulated administrative fee. This transparency aims to build trust and encourage digital adoption. The payment button will function as a secure gateway. It will accept multiple payment methods, including electronic wallets, credit cards, bank transfers, and QR code transactions.

Four integrated service modules

The digital tax payment app will include four main modules. Each module is designed to provide comprehensive services within a single digital environment. The central feature will be the payments module. Through it, citizens will be able to settle taxes, rates, licences, permits, and other obligations linked to their national identity card number. To access the system, users must create an electronic identity within the platform. The process will involve answering security validation questions to confirm their identity.

This streamlined process is expected to significantly reduce queues at municipal offices. By reducing paperwork and travel time, the new app seeks to make civic compliance faster, safer, and more efficient for Asunción’s residents.
