Reserve Officer Training Programme 2026 Kicks Off With Record Female Participation In Paraguay

Paraguay has welcomed over 3,000 recruits to the 2026 cycle of the Military Instruction and Reserve Officer Training Centre (CIMEFOR). The increased participation marks a historic milestone in Paraguay’s Armed Forces. For the first time, women constitute 62% of the participants, reflecting a significant step towards a more inclusive military.

Training is being conducted simultaneously across the Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Logistics Command. The programme focuses on a combination of institutional values, human rights education, and physical preparation. Therefore, ensuring that recruits develop the discipline and skills required to serve the nation with professionalism and responsibility.

New facilities for female recruits in Villarrica

A major highlight this year is the inauguration of the Pavilion for the 2nd Female Fusilier Company. The pavilion is located in Villarrica, around 150 kilometres from Asunción. The new facility provides modern, dignified accommodation for female personnel and represents a milestone in recognising the contributions of women to Paraguay’s military. The project was realised through collaboration between the Ministry of Defence, the Armed Forces, and the Guairá Department Government. Officials describe it as a symbol of state’s commitment to the welfare and professional development of female recruits.

Modernised and comprehensive training programme

CIMEFOR 2026 spans six weeks per year, divided into three periods. Recruits undergo modules in tactical instruction, technical skills, first aid, and emergency management. The curriculum has been updated to address current security challenges, with regular assessments to reinforce discipline, knowledge, and a strong sense of service.

Defence Minister General Óscar González, together with military and logistic commanders, attended the opening ceremony. The officers emphasised the government’s support for training reserve officers capable of defending the nation. CIMEFOR 2026 represents a forward-looking approach to national defence. Together with modern training practices, and setting a precedent for future generations of Paraguayan military personnel.
