Paraguay’s Trade Hub Nears Completion in Alto Paraná

Did you ever consider that a single new terminal could transform how business operates across borders? That vision is becoming reality in Presidente Franco, where Paraguay is completing a new trade hub designed to enhance regional trade. Presidente Franco, the oldest city in Alto Paraná Department, is renowned for its rich exports of fruits and vegetables.

Trade Hub 98,5% finished

The construction of this new cargo terminal marks a significant advancement for Paraguay’s trade and transport infrastructure. It is capable of handling nearly 1,000 trucks daily, with dedicated areas for customs, inspection points, and ample parking for large vehicles.

The project is nearing completion, with 98.5% finished as of mid-May 2025. The facility is a key component of the Corredor Metropolitano del Este (Eastern Metropolitan Corridor), a major initiative aimed at facilitating faster and more efficient transportation, not only within Brazil but across the region.

In 2024, the government announced progress on Route 21, enhancing Paraguay’s trade with Brazil.

Strategic location

Located right by the new Integration Bridge, the terminal provides an alternative route to the busy Puente de la Amistad (Friendship Bridge). Its proximity to major highways positions the terminal as a leader in freight movement between Paraguay and Brazil. On top of that, the new facility is ready to connect trade routes across the Southern Cone and open better access to Atlantic ports. With smart design and modern technology, it ensures goods move across borders quickly and on time.

“Its location near the Friendship Bridge makes it a natural hub for regional logistics,” said a transportation expert. “It will significantly transform how goods move between Paraguay, Brazil, and beyond.”

International help and economic growth

Founded by the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), this effort shows strong international support for Paraguay plans to upgrade infrastructure. The cargo terminal not only will reduce transport time, but also attract new investment in Alto Paraná. By launching this new hub, Paraguay is getting ready to gain influence in cross-border commerce and economic progress. With the opportunity to create new jobs, support exporters, and put the region on the international map.
