New Paraguarí Giant Wheel Draws Crowds Before Official Opening

A new Giant Wheel in Paraguarí, installed near the base of Cerro Perõ, has become a tourist magnet even before its official inauguration. The structure, which stands over 30 metres tall, attracted numerous curious visitors last weekend, according to images released by the Mayor’s office.

The mayor, Marcelo Simbrón, shared records of the public attendance on his social media and highlighted the project’s progress. This development is part of a municipal strategy to boost tourism and position the ninth department as a centre for leisure and adventure.

A panoramic attraction

The Ferris wheel is located in the area of Cerro Perõ, a well-known hill that has an elevation of approximately 208 metres. With the addition of the wheel, the highest point of the new viewpoint will reach an estimated 238 metres. From this vantage point, visitors will be able to enjoy panoramic views of Paraguarí and its surrounding landscape.

Although operational details are still being finalised for its launch, tourists are already ascending the hill. They are visiting the site to take photographs with the impressive structure and to observe the progress of the construction work. Cerro Perõ is already a popular local landmark, offering scenic views over the city.

Comfort and safety features

The Municipality has clarified that the Paraguarí Giant Wheel cabins acquired for the attraction are the same models used in Asia. For visitor comfort, they feature both hot and cold air conditioning, microphones, and Wi-Fi. Furthermore, the cabins are constructed with high-resistance, polarised polycarbonates for safety.

In response to public enquiries about the system’s comfort and security, officials confirmed that the main structure consists of steel and aluminium. This construction ensures the durability and safety of the new attraction.

A boost for tourism

The project was awarded to the company AGT Constructora for ₲1,437 million. It is being financed through a municipal loan of ₲2,700 million. The initiative aims to stimulate the local economy, create employment opportunities, and solidify Paraguarí as a year-round tourist destination.

The wheel joins other recent developments intended to attract visitors, such as the 208-metre-long stairway providing access to Cerro Perõ, which has also become a frequently visited spot. An official opening date for the Giant Wheel has not yet been confirmed, but its presence is already altering the city’s tourism profile and generating high expectations among residents and visitors alike.
