Authorities in Asunción honoured K-9 officer Rocky for his outstanding service with the National Anti-Drug Secretariat (SENAD). The Municipal Medal of Merit of the Canine Service recognised the dog’s long-standing contribution to public safety and national security. The ceremony took place at SENAD’s auditorium and brought together municipal leaders and senior government officials. Above all, the tribute highlighted the often-unseen work of canine units in Paraguay.
A career dedicated to public safety

Rocky is a Labrador Retriever of Peruvian origin, born on 23 May 2016. He officially joined SENAD in 2018 and went on to complete eight years of active operational service as part of the institution’s K-9 unit. From the beginning, his training and discipline set him apart within the force.
Most notably, Rocky carried out the majority of his duties at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport. This location is considered one of the country’s most strategic security points. In addition, he was deployed to several regional SENAD departments across Paraguay, supporting operations beyond the capital.
Throughout his career, Rocky participated in numerous control and inspection procedures. In particular, his role in the detection of illicit substances proved vital. Thanks to his work, several anti-drug operations were successfully carried out, directly strengthening efforts against drug trafficking.
The ceremony and institutional recognition

The medal was formally received by Rocky’s handler, with whom he now shares retirement. This moment underscored the close bond formed through years of teamwork and daily service. Their partnership reflects the trust and coordination required in canine operations.
The distinction was granted by the Asunción Municipal Council, under the presidency of councillor Arturo Almirón. Several high-ranking authorities attended the event. Among them were SENAD Minister Jalil Rachid and Asunción Mayor Luis Bello. Likewise, the President and Vice President of the Municipal Council were present, alongside Councillor Galeano and other institutional representatives.
A symbol of the canine service’s role
SENAD publicly welcomed and supported the recognition. According to the institution, the award highlights the strategic role of the Canine Service in control and prevention tasks nationwide. Ultimately, Rocky’s honour stands as a broader tribute to all canine officers who dedicate their lives to public service.
