The Ladislao Hrisuk Itapúa General Hospital has established itself as a leading healthcare facility in southern Paraguay. The health establishment is achieving concrete results in patient care, diagnostic services, surgeries, and management six months after its opening. Since becoming operational, the hospital has recorded over 140,000 consultations in its outpatient and emergency departments. During the same period, the laboratory served over 61,700 patients. The hospital also processed more than 920,000 tests and expanding access to diagnostic services.
Imaging and dental department
The imaging department served over 38,400 people, performing a total of more than 62,700 studies, which has allowed for optimised diagnoses and clinical follow-up. At the surgical centre, nearly 3,000 patients underwent various procedures, several of them highly complex. A highlight was the Mitã Vy’ara surgical marathon, during which 66 pediatric surgeries were performed.
In the dental department, the Itapúa General Hospital treated more than 4,500 people and carried out over 14,000 procedures. During this period, the first dental laboratory in the interior of the country was also opened, equipped with orthodontics and panoramic radiography services.
Accessibility of the Itapúa General Hospital
Regarding accessibility, the Itapúa General Hospital continued to develop its sign language interpreter service, facilitating care for patients with hearing disabilities. The addition of this resource has led to a sustained increase in the number of patients accessing the hospital for specialised support.
The hospital also played a significant role during the World Rally Championship (WRC). Held in this region of Paraguay, this event is recognised as among the best in the world. The Itapúa General Hospital served as the department’s healthcare referral centre. The health establishment is operating within a well-organised coverage plan that yielded positive results. During the four days of the competition, 174 people received care at fixed and temporary facilities, as well as at authorised health centres.
System and management
In terms of management, the hospital operates with a fully digitalised system through the HIS (Health Information System). Additionally, the Itapúa General Hospital has a call centre (154, option 7) that allows for the efficient scheduling of medical appointments.
Six months after its opening, the Itapúa General Hospital demonstrates strong performance indicators in patient care, infrastructure, and administration. The hospital offers healthcare services for the population of the department and the region, and people have been impacted positively.
