Reading Is Dreaming At The Asunción International Book Fair 2025

The Asunción International Book Fair 2025 (Feria Internacional del Libro Asunción 2025) is oficially underway at the Centro de Convenciones Mariscal. Organised by the Cámara del Libro Asunción Paraguay (CLAP), this year’s edition embraces the theme “Reading is Dreaming”, celebrating the transformative power of literature.

Running until June 8, the fair features over 120 stands showcasing a diverse range of publishers, bookstores, and cultural institutions. With more than 200 cultural activities scheduled, the event promises to be unmissable for all literature lovers. Heart of the Asunción International Book Fair

The 2025 edition of the Asunción International Book Fair’s “Reading is Dreaming” motto represents more than just a slogan. It is a call to share stories, build bridges, and create spaces for dialogue across cultures. As in past years, the fair serves as a meeting point for reflection, creativity, and meaningful conversations.

The 2025 edition also pays homage to Pope Francis, honoring his recent passing and recognizing his lifelong contributions to literature and the role of reading in personal and spiritual growth.

Full of international guests

The Asunción International Book Fair welcomes Colombia as this year’s guest of honor, represented by an exceptional lineup of authors. The represent various areas, like literature, history, poetry, theater, novels, and comics. Among the distinguished guests are Natalia Mejía (author of 11 bombas antes de las cenizas), Fabio Martínez (writer and columnist, author of Club Social Monterrey), and Orlando Oliveros (specialist in Gabriel García Márquez and editor of Centro Gabo).

The fair also opens its doors to a wide range of other international voices, including the multidisciplinary Argentine writer Liliana Picco. Also Mexican poet and Mayan language advocate Jorge Miguel Cocom Pech and Costa Rican horror and fantasy author Sussy Carballo will take their place in the spotlight.

Also attending are Vilma Faingezicht, director of Costa Rica’s Museum of the Jewish Community, and Pablo Delgado, renowned storyteller and children’s author from Costa Rica.

Books come to life!

Among the many immersive activities at the fair, The Sleeping Book stands out as a truly one-of-a-kind experience where books come to life!

Presented by the Paraguayan-American Cultural Center in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Paraguay, this extraordinary theatrical performance abandons the traditional stage and takes place inside a giant pop-up book.

Through imagination, visual art, and meaningful reflection, the show follows a peculiar character who guides the audience through a powerful story about the importance of democracy and the value of citizen participation.

The Sleeping Book is designed to captivate audiences of all ages and will offer multiple sessions each day, ensuring that all visitors have plenty of opportunities to embark on this imaginative literary journey.

The Asunción International Book Fair 2025 welcomes visitors during the following hours:

  • Monday to Thursday: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM
  • Friday and Saturday: 9:00 AM -10:00 PM
  • Sunday: 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM
