Paraguay has launched its 2026 avocado export season with an initial shipment of Hass avocados to Argentina, marking a modest but meaningful step in the country’s growing fruit export sector. A total of 5,075 kilograms of Hass avocados, produced in Guajayvi in the San Pedro department, were sent to the neighbouring market.
Misionero SRL carried out the export operation, while Tropical Argentina SRL, one of the leading fresh fruit importers in Argentina, handled the import. The process was closely monitored by Paraguay’s National Service for Plant and Seed Quality and Health (SENAVE).
Hass avocados from Paraguay: A growing sector

Although still relatively small in scale, Paraguay’s avocado industry has been expanding in recent years. Production remains concentrated in regions such as San Pedro and Cordillera, with estimates suggesting around 150 hectares under cultivation nationwide. This growth reflects rising demand both domestically and internationally. Avocados have gained popularity due to their nutritional value and their growing role in health-conscious diets. This trend has driven consumption across the region.
However, Paraguay still relies heavily on imports to meet local demand. Imports surpassed 1,000 tonnes in 2025, highlighting a gap between domestic production and consumption.
Broader export strategy
Although the current export volume remains limited, industry observers view it as an encouraging sign. The shipment forms part of a series of planned exports for the 2026 season, suggesting a gradual effort to position Paraguayan avocados in regional markets. Strengthening trade links with established importers and maintaining strict quality controls will be key to sustaining this momentum. For producers, the challenge now lies in scaling up production, improving yields, and consolidating export channels.
Avocados are not the only Paraguayan agricultural product reaching the Argentine market. In recent years, exports of tomatoes and onions have also helped strengthen bilateral trade and diversify Paraguay’s agricultural portfolio. As Paraguay continues to develop its agricultural diversification strategy, the avocado sector may emerge as a promising niche.
