Organised by the Ministry of Women, a grand fair will be held at O’Leary Plaza, next to the Pantheon of Heroes (Panteón de los Héroes) in Asunción. The event focuses on making women entrepreneurs visible and supporting them, as well as promoting equal opportunities. Entrepreneurs come not only from Asunción, but also from other cities. The Women’s Hands (Manos de Mujeres) Fair will take place on 26 and 27 June, from 7:00 to 13:00.
What to find at the Women’s Hands Fair?
Aimed at a public of all ages, professions, ethnicities, religions, and socio-economic backgrounds, this is an event for everyone. Visitors can expect a variety of handicrafts and agricultural products made by the women, and their families.
One will find a wide selection of goods such as fresh vegetables, eggs, honey, assorted pickles, and ready-to-eat food. There will also be decorative items, including crochet dolls, ñandutí, and pottery pieces. Most of the entrepreneurs come from Paraguayan cities such as Ypakaraí, Itá, San Lorenzo, Luque, Capiatá, Fernando de la Mora, Mariano Roque Alonso, and, of course, Asunción.
Institutions involved
This event follows the Expo Forum: Women Who Do (Expo Foro Mujeres Que Hacen), held this past February, which aimed to foster the construction of an equal future for women in Paraguay. During the forum, it was announced that this could be met through the promotion of gender equality, economic empowerment, and the prevention of violence against women.
In addition to the Ministry of Women, the event is supported by other institutions. From the government, the Vice-Ministry of Equality and Non-Discrimination is one of them, the Historical Centre of Asunción (CHA) is another. Additionally, the Agricultural Credit for Empowerment (Crédito Agrícola de Habilitación), and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG). Furthermore, the National Association of Artisans ‘Jopói Paraguay Apoha’, and lastly, the women entrepreneurs’ group ‘Feria Nuestro Paraguay’.
