From victim of abuse to family member: Rocky’s transformative story

Rocky, a dog that survived the abuse on the streets of Limpio, a town just outside of Asunción, found a second chance thanks to the National Directorate of Defense, Health and Animal Welfare. After being cruelly assaulted with hot water, he was rescued and rehabilitated by the entity. Now, in an emotional twist of fate, Rocky enjoys a love-filled home alongside his new adopter, Crispín Insaurralde, who shares how the life of this little can has also transformed his.

Rocky, who once roamed the streets of Limpio, was in a desperate situation. Homeless and hungry, his quest for food led him to approach a woman who was selling panchos on the street. In the hope of getting some food, the animal came up with the intention of getting some food. However, his encounter with the woman was not the one expected.

Instead of receiving a show of compassion, Rocky faced unexpected cruelty. The woman, instead of offering her something to eat, reacted with hostility and threw hot water at the small dog’s back. The pain and suffering of the small animal were evident, and the scene underlined the lack of understanding and empathy often faced by vulnerable animals.

Upon receiving the report on the status of the dog, the National Directorate of Defense, Health and Animal Welfare took immediate action. The agency’s professionals, committed to the protection and welfare of the animals, rescued Rocky and took him to a specialised center. There, Rocky received the necessary medical care to treat her burns and any other health problems arising from her life on the street.

Crispín Insaurralde, Rocky’s new adopter, shared the emotional story of how this little can found a home full of love and care after having gone through a situation of abuse. “Rocky is the happiest and most loving dog that can exist,” Insaurralde said.

The story of this can did not begin with so much happiness, but thanks to its recent adoption and the support of the Animal Welfare Directorate for its rescue and rehabilitation, its life took a complete turn.

Insaurralde recalled how, after moving into his new home in August, he and his girlfriend decided to adopt another dog to keep company for their first pet, who suffered from anxiety when he was left alone. That’s when the story of Rocky, who had been abused in her former home, reached her ears.

Despite complications in completing the adoption, the new adopter did not give up and contacted officials from the Animal Welfare Authority. “I sent you a video of our house to show him that the place was safe for him,” he detailed.

What ended up motivating him to adopt, was the impact of sad news: “When we heard that story, we knew we had to do something,” he said. From that moment on, he decided to get involved to give Rocky a second chance. After weeks of paperwork, the adoption took place, and the dog was finally able to leave behind the days of suffering.

Rocky, a little white pings with brown spots, is now recovering. Although it was initially thought that his fur would not grow again in the areas affected by the attack, his adopter said with joy: “It is already growing again.”

The interviewee also stressed the importance of taking responsibly and needing to be prepared to take proper care of a pet. Is it essential to be aware of the capacity and space available before adopting. Animals require a lot of love and care, and it is essential to make sure they can be provided with a suitable home, he stressed.

Insaurralde also mentioned that, in addition to its adoption, justice for Rocky is still on course. “Now we are waiting for the person responsible for his ill-treatment to receive the punishment he deserves,” he said.

Finally, he called on the community to consider responsible adoption and pet castration as crucial measures to combat animal overpopulation. We urge everyone to adopt, but always responsibly. Adopted animals can offer the same love as any other dog, and it is vital to support initiatives that help reduce the number of homeless animals.

This story, while moving, highlights the importance of adopting and caring for battered animals. The Animal Welfare Authority and the community continue to work so that more dogs like Rocky can find homes where they are treated with the respect and affection they deserve.

Rocky’s adoption has filled the home of the Insaurralde family with love, and also showed that empathy and action can transform lives, both from animals and people.
