From the street, one might walk straight past it. However, take a few steps further and a secret garden unfolds: banana palms sway gently, terracotta pots brim with greenery, and the soft murmur of a fountain calms the senses. This is Café Comporta, a tranquil escape inspired by its namesake, a coastal village in Portugal.
“When I discovered Comporta in Portugal, I fell in love with the idea. I always wanted to recreate it,” says Jorge Oyenard, the café’s founder. Here, nature sets the pace: calm, green, and quietly beautiful.
A vision takes root
When Jorge arrived in Paraguay in 2019, he brought with him a rich culinary background from Uruguay, where he had even competed in MasterChef. However, something was missing. “I had run out of challenges,” he admits. Paraguay offered him fresh inspiration. “It completely shifted my perspective,” he says. “It has a fascinating energy.”
That spark led to the creation of Café Comporta in 2022, not merely as a place to sip coffee, but as an experience into which Jorge poured his passion at every level. “We planted trees and greenery before even starting construction, so they would be full-grown by the time we opened,” he shares.
For him, Café Comporta is more than a business; it is a labour of love and creativity. “If you give it your best shot, something good will come of it,” he believes.
An atmosphere made for everyone
At its heart, Café Comporta is a place to slow down. Tables surround a central fountain where light dances on the water and quiet conversations unfold. “These are dreams come true for me,” confides Jorge.
Though effortlessly beautiful and undeniably Instagram-worthy, the café remains welcoming and down-to-earth. Families gather at long wooden tables, friends meet for brunch, and teams celebrate milestones. “We aim to be warm and welcoming, to prioritise harmony and wellbeing,” Jorge explains.

European and Paraguayan dishes, made daily on-site
At Café Comporta, the food speaks of care and craft. “We do not use canned goods,” says the founder, “and imported products are kept to a minimum.” Nearly everything is made in-house, from breads to pastas. “We do everything out of love; cooking is our passion,” Jorge adds.
The brunch-style menu balances comfort and sophistication. Gnocchi, a signature dish, has won critical praise, while buttery croissants vanish quickly each afternoon. Alongside European-inspired classics, traditional Paraguayan dishes offer visitors a genuine taste of the region. Seasonal specials add a fresh rhythm, keeping the menu alive and constantly evolving.
Café Comporta is also the production hub for Jorge’s other cafés, Casa Clari and Café del Teatro, which receive daily deliveries from its own pasta and bread factory.
