English, French, German? New Language Scholarships For University Students In Paraguay

Paraguayan university students will now have access to new opportunities with new language scholarships. This is to strengthen their academic and professional profiles through language learning. The National Scholarship Programme ´Carlos Antonio López´ has opened a new call offering funding for foreign language courses within the country.

The initiative aims to improve students´ competitiveness in an increasingly globalised world, providing access to key linguistic tools. The call will remain open until May 5, 2026 at 15:00. It will offer a limited number of places under an assisted modality.

Language scholarships with financial support

The Carlos Antonio López National Scholarship Program (BECAL) has made 30 language scholarships available. These language scholarships are for students interested in studying languages such as English, French, German or Portuguese at authorised institutions in Paraguay.

Each scholarship will last up to 12 months. With the possibility of renewal for an additional period if the student successfully completes the course. The funding covers up to US$ 700 per year, helping reduce the financial burden of language education. However, authorities highlighted that this support will only apply from the moment the contract is signed. This means that previous expenses will not be reimbursed.

Requirements and application process

The programme of language scholarships is aimed at Paraguayan or naturalised students currently enrolled in local universities, either in-person or virtually. Applicants must have a minimum academic average of 3.0 on a 5.0 scale. In addition, candidates must be at least in their second year, third semester or in the thesis stage of their degree. Among the main requirements is the submission of an admission letter from the selected language institute, as well as the result of a placement test.

All documents must be uploaded through the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT) application system. Each applicant is allowed to submit only one application and choose a single language for the duration of the scholarship.

Expanding opportunities through education

This initiative forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen higher education in Paraguay. By facilitating access to language training, the programme seeks to enhance students´ academic development and improve their employability.

Beyond national borders, mastering a foreign language opens doors to international scholarships, research opportunities and professional experiences. With this new call, BECAL continues to position itself as a key tool in building a more competitive and globally connected generation of Paraguayan professionals.
