Music And Memory: Concert Marks 90 Years Of Chaco War Peace

The National Secretariat of Tourism (SENATUR) and the National Symphonic Orchestra (OSN) have announced a series of cultural events culminating in a concert in commemoration of Chaco War Peace, on June 12 at 7:00 PM, at the Chortitzer Cultural Centre in Loma Plata, Boquerón Department. Admission is free and open to the public.

The concert honours the 90th anniversary of the peace treaty that ended the Chaco War (1932–1935). Under the baton of maestro Ernesto Estigarribia Mussi, the orchestra will perform a repertoire that blends iconic classical works with treasured pieces from Paraguay’s national music heritage, offering the audience an evening of exceptional artistic quality.

Chaco War Peace boosts tourism

The General Director of the OSN, Victoria Sosa, highlighted the work and support of SENATUR, the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies, and the Loma Plata Conservatory of Music for hosting the event.

Similarly, SENATUR Minister Angie Duarte emphasised the significance of the national holiday in fostering domestic tourism: “We are focusing on the Chaco War Peace holiday, which has been moved to 16 June, as a unique opportunity to celebrate our country and explore the Paraguayan Chaco. We invite everyone to experience the rich history and culture of this region, which has so much to offer.”

SENATUR’s ongoing efforts are enhancing Paraguay’s tourism appeal, with over 1.5 million tourists crave Paraguay’s cultural and natural wonders.

Beyond the concert

In addition to the music, visitors are encouraged to explore the city and cuisine of Loma Plata and its surrounding areas through curated tourism experiences.

Notable attractions include the Gran Chaco Interpretation Centre in Filadelfia, a museum dedicated to the region’s unique biodiversity and indigenous cultures, and the Filadelfia Labyrinth, a charming maze of natural paths suitable for all ages.

The city tour also features key historical sites, such as forts from the Chaco War, along with other activities like the Mennonite Colonies Route, which includes guided visits to museums, farms, and cooperatives, offering insights into the Mennonite community’s history, culture, and contributions to the region.

A cultural milestone

This concert represents more than event to commemorate Chaco War Peace, it is a cultural milestone in the decentralisation of symphonic music and the promotion of artistic expression throughout Paraguay. It reflects a firm commitment to making the arts accessible to communities across the nation, ensuring that music and culture resonate in every corner of the country.
