Norwegian Cinema Steals The Show At Asunción FICC 2025 Festival

The traditional International Festival of Contemporary Cinema of Asunción (FICC) will be held from 7 to 12 October 2025. The FICC is taking place in several cinemas all around the city, with a free entrance to all whom wish to attend. The festival will have an interesting proposal of films, both national and international. This year’s main international focus will be on Norwegian cinema, with an interesting selection of films from the jury. Last year, the focus was on Chilean cinema.

Highlighting Norwegian cinema would not have been possible without the support of the Norwegian Embassy in Argentina. The Embassy is concurrently accredited to Paraguay. The following films will be presented: A Happy New Day by Hisham Zaman, A New Kind of Wilderness by Silje Evensmo Jacobsen and Norwegian Dream by Leiv Igor Devold.

Many competitions are taking place as well, giving space to brand new directors from Paraguay and the region!

This year, the FICC will also count on the presence of Gaspar Insfrán.

What FICC has to offer

Apart from Norwegian movies, the FICC will have more to offer. The festival will present movies from Paraguay, but also from Argentina, France, and Italy. This year, the FICC will also count on the presence of Gaspar Insfrán, interviewed in 2025 by The Asunción Times. There will also be a short film competition, featuring international and national films. For more info about the schedule, check International Festival of Contemporary Cinema of Asunción Instagram.

Last year, the festival-goers could enjoy interesting conversations related to the current state of cinema in Paraguay. One of these conversations was “Copyright in Paraguayan Cinema” with Maria Belen Cubilla and Gonzalo Gomez Forsley. Last year short film winners were “Lumbrensueño” by José Pablo Escamilla and “For here am I sitting in a tin can far above the world” by Gala Hernández.

Four cinemans in FICC 2025

Four different cinemas are open to the public in 2025: Molière Hall of the French Alliance, America’s Theatre of the CCPA (Paraguayan-American Cultural Centre), Spain’s Cultural Centre Juan de Salazar and Auditorium Hall of the Cultural Centre of the Port of Asunción.

Asunción is a thriving cinematographic city

The FICC showed that the event has been a stable of the Asunción cinematographic scene. People from Asunción and around are welcomed with open arms by the festival, filling all the cinemas each year and craving for more!

Asunción is facing a change in the conception and recognition that art has in society. Asuncenos can watch Paraguayan movies for free at Cine de Barrio, or see the newest documentary on theatres: Under the Flag, the Sun, which is even nominated for an Oscar for best documentary.
