Nueva Asunción (New Asunción) Expects Great Growth With A New Bridge

The district of Nueva Asunción, created just a couple of years ago and technically part of the Chaco, but directly opposite the river from Paraguay’s capital Asunción, is looking forward to the great growth it will experience with the physical connection it will have with the country’s capital through the new bridge to be built over the Paraguay River.

The Heroes del Chaco bridge, which is scheduled to open on Sunday 3rd March 3, will not only be a milestone in the growth of Paraguay’s infrastructure, by establishing a new bridge between the two regions of the country over the Paraguay River after decades. It will also represent a leap forward for the district of Chaco.

Nueva Asunción was created by law in 2021 as a new district separated from Villa Hayes, bordering Nanawa and Falcón, in the department of Presidente Hayes. With less than 7,000 inhabitants, the expectation of population and commercial growth is great once the road connection with the capital city is established, acknowledges its first mayor, Juan Vera.

“There are many positive expectations about what is coming, with the construction of the bridge many people are coming, betting on Nueva Asunción, because of its proximity to the Capital. We believe that the population will grow and we will be able to have resources to invest in improving services,” said the mayor in an interview with Radio Nacional del Paraguay.

He pointed out that as a municipal administration they will do “everything possible to give the best to Nueva Asunción.” “We are going to plan well everything that is coming, tell people to bet on Nueva Asunción, since we are close to the capital, we are going to have all the services, and we are going to be a city that in the next five years will grow a lot,” he stressed.

Investments in Nueva Asunción

The municipality is currently working on a land regularisation process in conjunction with the National Cadastre Service, in order to provide all the necessary conditions for real estate investments, which is one of the sectors that is already showing significant dynamism, he said.

One of the major investments already established in the district is that of the firm Terminal Occidental SA (TOSA), which houses several multinational companies on its industrial property.

With the opening of the “Héroes del Chaco” bridge, the mayor hopes that new businesses and services will be established in the district, so that the expected “great growth” will be realised.

Quick access to and from Asunción

The expectation of closer ties with the capital, the area where most of the inhabitants currently work, is also important. “The flow of people entering through the bridge will surely be significant,” he said.

In this regard, the authorities of Nueva Asunción will take steps to establish some means of public transport across the new bridge, within the parameters of authorisation for light vehicles established by the Paraguayan Ministry of Public Works (MOPC).
