The Ministers of Industry and Commerce (MIC), Javier Giménez, and the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (MITIC), Gustavo Villate, received experts from the Institute of Technology of the Republic of China (Taiwan), with whom they analysed cooperation and investment opportunities in Paraguay in semiconductors and artificial intelligence.
The meeting was also attended by the Vice Minister of Rediex, Rodrigo Maluff; the Director of Strategic Planning of Rediex, Ernesto Rojas; and Benjamin Barán, President of the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT). The delegation from the Republic of China (Taiwan) was led by Ambassador José Chih-Cheng Han, together with experts Minge Wang and Ray Yang.
During the meeting, Taiwanese experts highlighted three key aspects for the development of the semiconductors and artificial intelligence industries in Paraguay, such as the country’s clean energy, which represents a significant competitive advantage for the technology industry.
Another point was the country’s strategic location, offering advantageous access to nearby markets, particularly Brazil, which facilitates logistics and commercial expansion in the region.
Finally, they highlighted the potential for the production of alternative energies, as they noted that Paraguay has the opportunity to diversify its technology industry through the production of solar panels, contributing both to the growth of renewable energies and to the strengthening of its industrial sector generally, as well as specifically relating to semiconductors and artificial intelligence.
They also highlighted the possibility of establishing strategic alliances for the construction of data centers, taking advantage of the favorable environment of clean energy and the emerging technological infrastructure in the country, which would allow Paraguay to exploit this expanding field and consolidate its position in the global technological market.
On this point, the Taiwanese ambassador commented that although the experts are not businessmen, they have a good knowledge of the sector, which is considered strategic in terms of politics and geopolitics, so work will be done on developing concrete actions to take advantage of these opportunities.
“We will study this thoroughly to see how we can implement concrete actions, whether investment or cooperation, in order to make the most of the conditions that Paraguay offers, especially in clean energy, water, and also human talent,” said Chih-Cheng Han.
