The Ministry of Children and Adolescents (Minna) has launched a new edition of its Toy Bank (Banco de Juguetes) campaign. The initiative encourages the public to donate toys, books, and board games to children across Paraguay. The project is done in preparation for the country’s Children’s Day celebrations on 16 August. Donations will be accepted until 15 August, with the initiative aiming to reach some of the country’s most vulnerable children.
Operating under the slogan “More Toys, More Smiles”, the campaign seeks to collect new or used toys in good condition. The Ministry has stressed that toy weapons will not be accepted. The programme promotes play environments centred on learning, creativity, and peaceful interaction rather than violence.
The right to play
Minna highlighted that play is recognised as a fundamental right of every child and plays a crucial role in physical, emotional, and social development. Through games and imaginative play, children develop creativity, strengthen communication skills, build relationships with others, and learn to solve problems.
According to Liza Villagra, from Minna’s Directorate of Early Childhood, donated items will undergo a sorting process before being distributed to children who need them most. The donations will benefit children receiving treatment in hospitals and those living in vulnerable circumstances. Distribution will also reach children’s homes and protection centres with the support of public institutions and civil society organisations.
How to donate
People wishing to contribute can drop off donations at Minna’s headquarters. The Ministry of Children and Adolescents’ main office is located on the corner of Ayolas and Oliva in Asunción. Donations are also received at the Ministry’s regional offices. Additional collection points have been established at Shopping San Lorenzo and Shopping Century Plaza.
